Number One Pond

Greetings and Welcome to the home page of the Sanford/Springvale Rotary Club.

Our club is one of approximately 33,600 clubs around the world. This collection of clubs supports an organization called Rotary International (RI) which has over 1.2 million members. RI is broken down geographically into regions, districts and clubs. The Sanford/Springvale Club is in District 7780 which includes clubs from as far north as central Maine through southeastern New Hampshire including Bethel and Newburyport in Mass. Rotary is a non-profit service organization with a motto of “Service above Self”. Rotary has been one of the driving forces in helping to wipe out Polio around the world. Members are involved in projects ranging from building schools and toilet facilities to teaching children to read or fixing their teeth. Closer to home the Sanford/Springvale Club supports efforts in the area of Literacy, provides scholarships and education grants, recognizes the students in the Vocational Education program, helps construct parks and playgrounds just to name a few of the areas in which the club provides help around the community.

While the day to day business of Rotary continues without interruption, each year Rotary International and the clubs in Rotary change the individuals in the leadership roles of the organizations with new presidents from RI to the clubs assuming their roles to serve from July 1 to June 30. Each year the RI President establishes a theme for their year, The 2010-2011 RI President Ray Klinginsmith has set a theme of Building Communities Bridging Continents. My name is James (Jim) Q. Gulnac and I have the distinct privilege of being President for the 2010-2011 Year. My theme for this year is Celebrate Sanford: Find Your Passion.

The club conducts both large and small fund raising activities throughout the year in order to support its various service projects.. The net proceeds from all the funds raised are then used to support a wide range of community service projects both locally and around the world.

Take a few minutes to browse through our web site.

Please feel free to consider yourself an invited guest and join us at one of our meetings. We gather (7:30am) for breakfast on Thursday mornings at the Mousam View Conference Center (former home to the Knights of Columbus) located at 47 High Street in Sanford Maine.
